Personal ATV Maintenance Guide Under High Temperature
High temperature and sandy terrain easily cause overheating, belt burnout and component wear of ATVs. Here is the simple and practical personal maintenance guide.
Before riding, check the coolant level and clean the dust and silt on the radiator to ensure heat dissipation. Use full synthetic high-temperature engine oil and shorten the oil change cycle properly. Clean the air filter to guarantee smooth air intake. Adjust the tire pressure slightly lower than the standard to prevent high-temperature tire burst. Inspect the brake fluid and brake pads, and clean the brake caliper silt. Clear dust inside the CVT transmission box and keep vents unobstructed to avoid belt burning. Polish battery terminals and do not fill the fuel tank full to reserve thermal expansion space.
During riding, avoid long-time high throttle driving and in-situ high revving. Stop and cool down every 30 minutes under heavy load or climbing conditions. If the temperature warning light turns on, stop and cool down immediately. Never flush hot engine, brakes and tires with cold water to prevent component cracking.
After riding, wait for the vehicle to cool down completely before flushing silt with low-pressure water, especially the transmission box and brake system. Dry and lubricate the chain with high-temperature chain wax. Regularly grease suspension bearings and check aging fuel pipes and circuits. For long-term parking, place the ATV in shade, jack up the tires and disconnect the battery negative pole.
